Life in the jungle is unpredictable. The weather changes at the drop of a hat. Google never provides accurate weather for Costa Rica, its typically sunny throughout the day, and sometimes it may rain at night. The electricity can go off for an hour. Cleaning ants may decide to sweep through your living room floor, or a cockroach decides to land on your fruit. Costa Rica is not known for being particularly efficient in any process. Lines move slow. People might operate on “beach time” and be late, or you feel they are unreliable. Itinerary may be subject to change. We are in a different country, so we ask that you leave any united states expectations at home, and be open to a new experience!
All activities are part of the Black Women Healing Retreat schedule and can not be changed or switched. If you miss an activity due to flight delays, sickness etc, the activity can not be replaced. This includes for weather. During the retreat, you will also be able to take Surf Lessons, Kayaking, or Snorkeling. You will attend 1 of these activities. This activity will be told to you when you are at the retreat — Participants are not able to choose the activity, it will be finalized on the itinerary for the group to attend together. You’ll also have lunch on the beach on this day.
Yes, you must be under 250lbs to attend zip lining.
We generally do not publish the schedule on our website, it is only for confirmed retreat attendees. You will receive your itinerary the day you arrive at the retreat. However the activities listed on the main page will be included in the itinerary, barring any changes not under our control.

The local currency is Colones however Costa Rica also accepts US dollars. Upon your arrival you will receive an email that will teach you how to count the local currency. In the area there are a couple of banks and a few ATM machines.
We suggest wearing your hair in whatever way works best for you. You can wear your hair natural, get braids, or wear a bust down middle part wig etc., we don’t recommend weaves because you will be getting your head wet. If you wear makeup at home, you can bring your makeup with you! Long acrylics and short nails do well in Costa Rica.
3 weeks before the retreat, we recommend nourishing your body with healthy foods, walking or exercising 2-3 times a week, so that you can start to prepare yourself for Costa Rica.
