CODE OF CONDUCT

Code of Conduct

Below are a few definitions of behaviors that will NOT be accepted. Please read each.

Colorism

Prejudice or discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone, typically among people of the same ethnic or racial group.

Body Shaming

Negative statements and attitudes toward another person’s weight or size. It can also reach into the discrimination against individuals who may be overweight or underweight.

Sexuality and Gender Discrimination

Treating individuals differently because of their sexuality. Negative statements or discrimination against heterosexuality or homosexuality will not be tolerated.

Religious Discrimination

Treating individuals differently because of their religious or spiritual beliefs. All religious and spiritual beliefs are respected here. The more you understand spirituality, the more you know its not about shunning what others believe. *This definition applies to witchcraft, Black magic and Atheism.*

Alcohol + Cigarettes + Tobacco

Alcohol, Cigarettes, and Tobacco are not permitted throughout the retreat. On the last day of the retreat, you will be able to have the option of cocktails at our farewell dinner.​

Telephones

Telephones will not be allowed during meal time. All guest within the retreat must leave their telephones in their room during all meals. We also recommend putting on vacation responders and telling people at home that you are going away for a week to focus on yourself, this will allow you to be fully immersed with the retreat, we want you to come present and ready to practice self care.

Judgements Centering Institutionalized Education

We recognize that someone who has not gone through an instiutitionlized education system can have the same value and knowledge as someone who has. We recognize that some people are born with certain gifts/wisdom that can not be taught. We also recognize that education and academia are essential. We honor all healers, spiritualists, teachers, and guides.

Non - Dating

Black Women Healing Retreats does not permit dating between employees or team members. All dating, flirting, and fraternizing is prohibited. Suppose a participant or or team member is already dating/in a relationship with someone who is also at the retreat. In that case, this is okay, but using this space for finding romance/flirting etc., will not be tolerated.

Creatures of the Jungle

Although Costa Rica and Jamaica may appear developed it is very much where the jungle meets the sea. Bugs, sloths, and monkeys, have their home throughout the jungle. Participants are asked to practice (ahimsa) non-violence with the creatures of the jungle. We prefer to keep the creatures alive. If you are afraid of a bug, we suggest remembering that the bug is probably just as scared as you 😉

Community

There is a zero tolerance hate policy for any offensive verbal comment related to physical appearance, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or personal life style choices. If this behavior is detected, we will handle it accordingly. Participants will be asked to stop any hateful or disrespectful behavior immediately. If the negative behavior persists, the organizers and participants of the space will take appropriate action such as mediation or asking the offender to leave.**Please do not feel burdened to bring this behavior to our attention. We want to maintain a chill vibe and healing energy for the duration of our retreat, and to do that we depend on the honesty of our teachers and participants. **

Meal Time

All participants must be present at all meal times.All participants must be present at all meal times.
Facilitators will sit together during meal times.

Personal Responsibility

We ask that participants practice personal responsibility by showing up for themselves. Participants should be sure to show up to all activities on time. If you are late to an activity, you will be responsible for arranging your own transportation to the activity. If you are late for a workshop or yoga/ meditation class, you may not be permitted within the class, this depends on the class.

Advertising at a Retreat

Generally speaking, clothing that has words on it (graphic tees etc.) will not be permitted within the retreat. Advertising and promoting brands and companies outside will not be allowed at any time.
This extends to passing out flyers, wearing tee shirts, bracelets, etc., that advertise a brand and all forms of promotion and advertising.
Participants should not wear any brands or logos that show the name or logo of the company, for example, Nike, Adidas etc. This includes small companies as well. If the logo does not show, it can be worn at the retreat. If you are interested in promoting an outside brand, you must seek written permission prior to arriving at the retreat.

Hair, Makeup & Nails

We suggest wearing your hair in whatever way works best for you. You can wear your hair natural, get braids, or wear wigs, we don’t recommend weaves because you will be getting your head wet. If you wear makeup at home, you can bring your makeup with you! Long acrylics and short nails do well in Costa Rica.

Disability

Unfortunately, as stated on the website we are unable to accommodate people that are hearing impaired, blind and those with limited mobility.

Drama and Gossip

You will told to leave the property. for gossiping about anyone including the participants and staff. Spreading rumors, starting drama, being nasty towards anyone here will get you removed from the retreat with no refund. If you are removed from the retreat, you will have 15 minutes to pack your belongings and a taxi will be arranged to take you to a hotel near the airport. Participants can be told to leave the retreat if they consistently portray aggressive, confrontational, argumentative etc behavior with other participants or any staff. Participants will be asked to leave the retreat, and a refund will not be issued.

Changes Made To The Itinerary

We will communicate in the group chat if their are any changes to the itinerary, Throughout the retreat all guest are too pay attention to the group chat for communication purposes.

Social Media

Please be courteous to fellow participants and staff by asking for permission before taking or posting pictures that include others. If someone comes to you and says “I don’t like the photo you posted of me, take it down” there should not be a back and forth, because there is no consent. Act accordingly and remove the photo.
Photos of alcoholic beverages or herbal supplement should not be posted with affiliation to BWHR.

The zero tolerance hate policy extends to negative postings on any form of public website or social networking, i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, etc. Should you post something before or after the retreat, affiliated with Black Women Healing Retreats that the organizers feel does not align with the sisterhood and mission of Black Women Healing Retreats, you will be asked to remove or edit the post. Should a participant defame, slander etc Satya , BlackWomen Healing Retreats or affiliates, the participant will be penalized with $100,000 fee payable to Papaya House Retreats, Black Women Healing Retreats and/or further legal action.

Behavior Expectations

Participants will refrain from abusive language, loud outburst or verbal abuse of any staff member or participant. Participants will speak respectfully with a normal tone of voice to all staff.

Refusal to comply with any conditions within this code of conduct will result in your immediate removal from the retreat with no refund, and/or further legal action. Once again, thank you for attending BWHR!
